My birthday was a week ago on the 5th, so it seemed only fitting to dress up my mini me, Arista, in Maryellen’s Birthday Dress and crinoline! I got both as Christmas presents from my parents.

love everything about this outfit – the shimmery blue-green of the dress, the rows of tulle, the darker ribbon sash and headband, and the pop of color from the pink flower, shoes and crinoline! I want a human-sized version of this dress!

Twirling, twirling, twirling…

The combination of the tulle in the dress and crinoline makes it slightly poseable – at least enough to make it look like Arista is dancing on her own! The tulle overlay also diffuses some of the shininess of the satin and gives it more interest.

The shape of the shoes is unique. The front and back curve to meet in the middle, giving them more detail than a standard flat. And the bows are a cute finishing touch.

The dress reminds me a little of one from the Magic Attic Club collection of dolls – Rose’s recital dress (that she wears in Rose Faces the Music). It was always one of my favorites as a kid.

I think Maryellen’s Birthday Dress may just be my favorite out of all of American Girl’s birthday dresses (Samantha’s would probably be a close second). I definitely recommend it and the crinoline – it gives the dress just the right amount of poof!

From what I’ve seen on Instagram, it looks like there’s a lot of collectors celebrating January birthdays. So Happy Birthday, fellow January babies! 😉 And a very Merry Unbirthday to everyone else!
