When fandoms collide!

In late December of 2018, I tried my hand at making my first pair of customized Minnie ears (based on Rapunzel). And, as you might expect of someone who's had a lot of fun customizing dolls, I got hooked on customizing Minnie ears for a while.

In March of 2019, I took on my most-involved customizing project yet. I got the crazy idea to make a pair of Samantha Parkington-inspired ears (she's always been my favorite of the original American Girl dolls -- probably in part because her era is the same as Main Street, U.S.A.).

After being unable to find a gingham that was close enough to Samantha's meet dress print, I took a page from some of my cosplay friends and tried making my own print on Spoonflower. It's not an exact match, but something I thought would read "Samantha," but stand out on ears.

Samantha-Inspired!

And then the real work began! I got a base set of ears that worked perfectly with Samantha's color scheme, drafted a pattern for the ear coverings, sewed them up, added a ribbon bow similar to Samantha's, and was able to find another locket in excellent used condition as the finishing touch.
