Disney's Rapunzel

I love all of the Disney Princesses, and I'm definitely in the camp of being happy for the collaboration between Disney and AG (especially if it helps make AG a little more financially stable), but for the most part, I've been okay appreciating the Disney dolls from afar (especially the $300 ones x_x).

When American Girl's version of Ariel came out, I knew I could resist her (...or at least enough to create my own version). I just wasn't sold on the choices they made in her design.

And then AG announced the "playline" version of Rapunzel. She's not completely screen accurate -- with her blue-green eyes instead of bright green -- but she's pretty dang close! At first, I thought I'd be able to resist her as well. I had Talia, who was accidentally very similar to Rapunzel, so why would I need AG Rapunzel, too?

AG's Rapunzel on the left and my custom (formerly Rebecca) on the right.

But where AG's Ariel doesn't quite look enough like the character to me, AG's Rapunzel is almost exactly how I would've designed her, myself. I would've given her a new shade of green eyes, but the light blue-green color still reads pretty close, so it's not a deal-breaker for me. Neither is her outfit. I know some people are annoyed that it doesn't look more like the version she wears in the movie, but I think it's a nice twist on her design. I especially love all the gold accents.

So, as you can you can probably guess, while I started out strong in my resistance, I quickly began to hypothetically run through "what-ifs." "What if I sold Talia and put the money toward Rapunzel?" "What if I sold Talia and another doll and put the money toward Rapunzel?" But before I could set any of those plans in motion, Rapunzel became a very early Christmas present from my equally Disney and American Girl obsessed mom. ♥

The first Rapunzel that arrived had a really sweet face, but a very unfortunate, very dramatic head tilt. I tried to shift some of her stuffing around (as much as I could with her head still firmly attached), but it just wasn't working. And then I realized... it wasn't just her head that was tilted, her body was also slightly twisted. While it made her look like she was posing, it also explained why her dress seemed to pull in a weird way. So, we packaged her back up and sent for a replacement. Luckily, Rapunzel #2 was perfect!

Rapunzel, Rapunzel, let down your hair!

I LOVE that Rapunzel's hair is long, but not so heavy that she can't stand on her own. Poor Talia has an intensely thiccc wig that I'd hoped might be helped by braiding her hair, but really, has continued to make her too top-heavy. She needs a stand to keep upright, which is why I haven't really displayed her much. But AG Rapunzel has no problem posing.

Macarons, anyone?

And she can stop for a snack with her fellow Disney Princess, Ariel!

Where does that leave Talia? I've been debating giving her a new wig -- maybe dark brown, so she'd look almost like a Truly Me 55. I'll likely pull the trigger on that project in a little while. I still have a few other projects that I need to complete.

In the meantime, welcome, Rapunzel! ♥

Oh, and bonus... Halloween Disney Princess friends! (R-3X can be a princess, too. ;D)
